Our Mission & Vision

The Brookwood School endeavors to provide a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment in which children can grow socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally within all of our programs.

We strive to inspire a life-long love of learning by providing a balance of child-directed experiences, intentional teaching, and student reflection. Our program aims to develop a child’s ability to problem solve, negotiate, investigate and become creative and flexible thinkers. Through socialization opportunities teachers facilitate the development of cooperation, empathy, self-regulation, and communication skills.

We welcome families of all race, culture and religious backgrounds.

We follow research-based best practices and employ qualified teachers and caregivers who work in partnership with parents/guardians, as well as, public and private entities.

Programs

Our Infant Program provides a warm and stimulating environment for early growth and development for infants beginning at 6 weeks of age. Our nurturing and qualified care givers partner with families to provide individualized care. Infants in our care are immersed in love, affection and tenderness as they develop physically, emotionally and socially. A ratio of four infants to one care giver is maintained at all times during care. Our team is also CPR and First Aid certified and trained in developmentally best practices.

Each child is assigned his/her own crib and follows a personal schedule of eating, sleeping, and playing. Many children develop similar schedules so meal and play times are often shared creating additional socialization opportunities. Music, reading, art, interactive play and outdoor time are enjoyed by all throughout the day. Developmental milestones are shared and celebrated by both staff and families.

Our Toddler Program supports the unique developmental needs of growing toddlers ages 18 months through 3 years of age. Toddlers in our care are guided to safely explore the world around them as they develop and strengthen their individual sense of self. Our cooperative care givers work closely with families to encourage each child’s personal development in the areas of potty training, feeding, communication and socialization. Children are guided to build independence and self-confidence within a safe, consistent and nurturing environment. Our valued team members attend regular professional development trainings and CPR/First Aid Certification courses.

Our balanced program contains practical routines and exploratory play-times designed to expose children to the richness of the world around them. Children enjoy hands on crafts and activities daily as they strengthen and develop their sensory, motor, and language skills. Our Toddlers enjoy Physical Education class three times a week and Music and Spanish classes once a week, all instructed by educated professionals.

Our Preschool Program provides an enriching, interactive and educational environment for children 3 to 5 years of age. We offer three types of classrooms designed to meet the specific developmental and/or age needs of your child. Our qualified Team members apply an emergent, play-based curriculum rich in literature and science. They utilize holistic approaches to instruction designed to meet the needs of all learners. Children are exposed to early language, mathematical, and scientific concepts through plenty of hands-on crafts and activities aligned with weekly educational themes, dramatic play, and outdoor exploration on our large rural property.

Our Transition to Preschool room supports children who have aged out of the Toddler Program and are continuing to practice toilet training as well as other independent skills. Our dedicated staff members collaborate closely with our Toddler Team and families to work towards meeting developmental milestones. Children in our Transition room enjoy free and guided play, circle times, and stimulating age-appropriate crafts.

Our Three Year Old Preschool room is designed for potty-trained three to four year old children who are socially and emotionally adjusted and ready for preschool learning objectives and concepts. Our Three Year Old room offers generous free and guided play times, circle times, exciting crafts and activities, and ample opportunities for continued social and emotional growth.

Our Four Year Old Preschool rooms are specifically designed to support your child in all areas of development for a strong foundation towards transitioning to Kindergarten. The Brookwood School works closely with the local school district to inform our Program’s learning objectives and developmental goals. Children experience a range of instructional approaches to preschool learning objectives with a strong emphasis on character development and social-emotional intelligence. As with our other Preschool rooms, children experience free and guided play, exciting literature and science-based themes and hands on activities and crafts.

As with our other Programs, our Preschool staff attend regular professional development trainings and are CPR/First Aid Certified. Preschoolers in our care also enjoy Physical Education three times a week and Music and Spanish weekly, all lead by qualified professionals.
