Before and After School Program

The Brookwood School offers childcare before and after school. The Before School Program is available from 6:30 am until the start of school at 8:30 am. Children are fed breakfast, participate in games, art projects, and free play with our caring staff. The After School Program begins at 12:00 pm for three- and four-year-olds and 2:30 pm for children in grade school. Childcare is available until 5:30 pm.

The younger children share a group lunch, followed by games and then a quiet rest period. The rest of the afternoon is a time for free play, projects, outside games and activities, as well as a snack. The Before and After School Programs are available to all community children and transportation is available from Cooperstown Central Schools.

The goal of the After School Program is to provide an interesting, relaxed afternoon with many choices of activities. The Program encourages the integration of language arts with play. Teachers use and model negotiation and conflict resolution techniques to help children get along with one another.

Each week we offer planned art activities around such themes as the seasons, the human body, the shapes and colors, and dinosaurs. These projects encourage freedom and creativity and the development of small motor coordination skills.

Every effort is made to provide and to introduce a broad variety of appealing books which are read at circle times or by students independently. There are games and outdoor playground time. Children enjoy wonderful opportunities to build friendships across age groups, time for talk, games, dress up, and creative play.
