Philosophy
The Philosophy of Working with Children
At The Brookwood School, we respect each child as an individual. We care about every aspect of her/his development, social and emotional as well as academic. Teachers describe or model the kinds of speech and behavior that contribute to a friendly, happy atmosphere; they also discuss the children how this contribution can be made by the words and actions we choose. At all times, teachers should endeavor not to use a harsh voice with children. Educational psychologists have found that students who feel happy and have a sense of belonging are students who are more effective and enjoy school more.
The Philosophy of Working with Parents
Our families seek an environment in which their children will be nurtured, their creativity encouraged, and where parents’ suggestions are valued. The parent body at Brookwood is active and involved, contributing at every level, from offering their talents and services in the classroom, to fundraising and student recruitment. Brookwood is small and family-oriented, and every friendly exchange among staff, and between staff and parent, enhances our environment in a most positive way.
The Brookwood School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities accorded or made available to its students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, religion or gender in its administration or its educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid programs and other school administered programs.
