The Brookwood School nestles amidst the beauty of hills, forest, and farm lands, in the village of Toddsville, three miles from Cooperstown, New York. We are a nonprofit, independent pre- and elementary school, chartered by the New York State Department of Education, starting with the Infant Program and culminating in the Sixth Grade.
Our academic program is based on the philosophies of Maria Montessori and Jean Piaget, is child-centered, emphasizing small, informal classes and independent study. The curriculum is theme-based and interdisciplinary. We have a hundred students at present.
We are dedicated to nurturing the learning and social skills that guide a child through life. We are committed to the individual development of all students, their academic growth, their unique character, and their social proficiency.
Our aim is for students to reach the highest level of academic achievement, while cultivating a deep appreciation for nature, a sense of stewardship for the environment, and responsibility to the community at large. Our country setting provides an invaluable environment for the study of nature, science, and wildlife, and outdoor activities throughout the year.
The Brookwood School is open all year. When school is in session, we provide Before and After School Care to children in the area. During vacations, our programs are abundant with a variety of activities that take full advantage of the natural beauty of our setting.
